new music for you

PJ Bond
you may have seen him out with The Color Fred, Marigold, or Communipaw
if you're an OG, you might have seen him a few years ago with Outsmarting Simon
but you've most likely seen him playing guitar with Charlotte Sometimes on Warped this summer

well he's recorded his own solo release "fall, tonight" and he's got it for sale. you can check out his myspace and order it from there or catch him out on tour with CS and he should have some copies available.

at the very least, check him out
you won't be dissapointed
http://www.myspace.com/pjbondmusic

and COME ON! you know i don't listen to crappy music. trust me on this.

SPIN magazine knows all?

while unpacking boxes i found one of my old issues of SPIN i undoubtly bought because fall out boy was on the cover. it's from the winter of '05. i flipped through it just for kicks and found the sidebar that was talking about the artists that pete wentz has 'signed' to Decaydance. this one i found incredibly funny...
"GYM CLASS HEROES
Upstate New York backback rappers + post-punk instrumentalists = The Papercut Chronicles, this mishmash quartet's first full-length. It has lots of potential, and Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump guests on one song, but early tracks are disturbingly reminiscent of Crazy Town.
TRL Odds: 65-1"

just so you know, Panic's odds were 3-1, The Hush Sound were 20-1, and October Fall were 100-1

really andy greenwald? i expected much more from you. you write great books!
a crazy town comparision? and lets talk about those TRL odds.
oh wait...

not only were they TRL favorites but oh yeah...

they won an MTV VMA.

this was my amusement for the day. are there any artists you've read about that noone expected to make it big? and then they totally did?

dude, wait... WHAT?

"Jimmy Eat World and Paramore have just confirmed a U.S. co-headline tour scheduled to kick off in March. Full schedule, on-sale dates and support acts will be announced shortly."
- from a myspace bulliten via fueledbyadam

okay here's the deal:
jimmy eat world is one of my all time favorite bands. safe to say i'd put them in the top 3 of all time. i've never gotten the chance to see them live because over the years things have just kept coming up. so i'm way stoked that i'll get to see them [fingers crossed] on this tour. AND with paramore [who, yes i have many thoughts on] but they put on an amazing live show, and i've got mad respect for hayley's voice.
BUT...
co-headlining? a co-headlining tour? no i don't think so. it's very clear that Jimmy Eat World should be headlining the whole tour. they released their first album when hayley was 4 or 5? yeah. i mean i understand that it's because Paramore has blown the heck up here recently [and as they should, they write catchy songs and are great live, and i've heard they are pretty nice too]. all i have to say is that i will be VERY dissapointed if JEW doesn't headline the date i choose to attend.
ALSO...
if any of you have been to a Paramore show recently, you KNOW what their crowd is like. and look okay, i STILL go to falloutboy shows. i mean, i can put up with it. i'm just not looking forward to it.

leave your thoughts, comments, concerns below or something

and PLEASE: this was not a dis aimed at Paramore as a band or any of their members and fans. I am a fan. I was also still in elementary school when JEW released their first album. I just wanted to get my thoughts out there. Thanks. :)

music surveyyyyy

What was the last concert you attended?
- the Dance Rawr Dance tour in Charlotte w/ Family Force 5, Jonezetta, and The Secret Handshake

How many people were there?
- a good crowd. But not too many, the venue was too big for that kind of show

What bands have you seen in concert the most, and how many times?
- The Working Title [10+ probably more like 15+]
- Cartel 8x? maybe 9?
-  Paramore 8 times

* New Atlantic and Fall Out Boy are getting up there as well

Do you have any setlists? From what bands?
- I have a handful of Working Title set lists from over the years.
Most recent is Fall Out Boy’s from the Young Wild Things Tour in Orlando.

Are there any CDs in close proximity to you? Which ones?
-  Sing It Loud’s EP, Viva la Cobra!, new Say Anything, and Jimmy Eat World’s ‘Chase This Light’

How many states/provinces have you been to concerts in?
- South Carolina, Florida, North Carolina, & Georgia

What bands did you see live in the month of May?
- Cartel, The Secret Handshake, New Atlantic, Lydia, The Matches, The Working Title [2x]

What CD are you addicted to at the moment?
- Sing It Loud’s EP and the Wonder Years’ ‘Get Stoked On It’

What is one band that you used to like, but now you can’t stand?
- I can’t think of any

What band are you in the mood to see live right this second?
- brand new, jimmy eat world, and cobra starship. ALL ON THE SAME SHOW, ha!

Have you ever been on a tour bus?
- haha yes of course. and in the smelly vans. who am I kidding? the busses don’t smell so great either

Have you ever partied with a band?
- yes. I’m finally old enough and have plenty of time to go to the after parties. Although we like to have our own dance parties in cars

Have you ever been on anyones guest list? Whose?
- the working title, cobra starship, paramore, fall out boy, new atlantic, gym class heroes, powerspace [but then the show was cancelled], lifetime

Last band person that you got a picture with?
- scratching head… I guess disashi from gymclassheroes. We were in the parking garage and rushing to get him back for bus call and I wasn’t paying attention, Anna likes to take paparazzi pictures

How old were you when you went to your first concert?
- around 6 or 7. Reba McEntire, Linda Davis, and Billy Dean

Are you wearing a band t-shirt right now?
- surprisingly NO

What band do you own the most merch of?
- maybe fall out boy, I have 2 shirts and some Clan stuff. I don’t like to have multiples of band merch

What song is on your MySpace right now?
- Everyone Knows Everyone by The Secret Handshake

Have you ever met that band?
- uhhh yeah, like 4 times. Luis and I always have good talks, even though he can’t seem to remember me, EVER. And I finally introduced myself to the drummer b/c he keeps changing. Shoutout to greg! Ha!

Do you ever do anything crazy at shows?
- sometimes I heckle, but only at shows where I know the band, because its funny

What are your favorite venues to go to shows at?
- home/Charleston: The Village Tavern & Music Farm
- school/upstate SC: The Handlebar
- Atlanta: The Masquerade [Hell > Heaven]
- Charlotte: Tremont

What band do you have the most performance pictures of?
- fall out boy, the working title, and cartel are all probably tied

Would you ever get a tattoo representing a band?
- if I did it would be lyrics, not an actual band name

How many concerts do you average a year?
- I average at least 4-5 a month. So like 60? Plus all the extras in the summer and warped tour. I get around ;]

Upcoming shows?
- The Less in Greenville on 11/29
- Cartel in Athens on 12/6
- The Working Title in Charleston on 12/7

List every band you’ve ever seen live:
- I haven’t got the time and you haven’t got the attention span

we had a blast, hung with some of our fave people, and danced a lot :)

pictures are up in the YWT tour album, obvs.
and i'm hitting the tour again on sunday in Clemson, SC when i fly back to school
so expect more then

i got a set list, i'll post a pic of that soon and i can find it in the bottom of my ginormous purse
i also have videos on youtube that i'll link to here before the weekend is over

top five songs that are owning my life at the moment 10/15/07

'Everyone Knows Everyone' -The Secret Handshake
I can't stand that we're all connected
I miss the days when I only knew my friends
That whole world thinks they know about me
But that beats the day when they only knew without me
- The very first time I heard this song I was in shock. It's like Luis read my mind, the first two lines hit me pretty hard. It makes constant cameos in my daily playlist

'All Around Me' -Flyleaf
My hands are searching for you
My arms are outstretched towards you
I feel you on my fingertips
My tongue dances behind my lips for you
- Definitely a sing along in the car song. I'm usually not a fan of female singers but for some reason I love Lacey's voice. I also seem to keep catching this video everytime it comes on FUSE.

'Guilty Pleasure' -Cobra Starship
And maybe someday I'll believe
That we are all a part of some bigger plan
Tonight I just don't give a damn
If the world is ending, I'm throwing the party
- Sassy Patrick's guest vocals are the icing on the cake of this sweet song! And yeah I'm ready for the new Cobra record. pretty much just because I'm ready to dance some more!

'Confidence is Everything' -The Graduate
Pay attention sweetie
I'll ask you one thing straight
We're not in high school
Stop talking and start moving
- One of the most talented and yet fairly unknown bands out right now. This song is off their Horror Show EP but it still comes up on my iTunes playlists all the time.

'Walk On Water Or Drown' -Mayday Parade
Oh, and everybody knows this is the part
Of breaking down in anybody's arms
I'm reaching down and hoping this one's ours
God, please let this stay
- This entire cd is excellent! For some reason I've been listening to this song a lot in the past few days, could it be because I'm missing someone and want it to work out? Yeah, I think so.

What are the top 5 songs that are owning your life right now? Let me know!
Comment or post your own journal and link me!

* all pictures used are mine except for the Flyleaf one which is from their Myspace page.

September 27, 2007

top five songs that are owning my life at the moment 9/28/07

'Beatdown in the Key of Happy' -Four Year Strong
You're a gamble/You've got nothing left to lose
You think you got me in the back of your pocket? you do
So take a breath and try to keep it down/ 'Cause I love these girls but I hate this town
But I'm positive that theres nothing about you to get to know
--- i'm a sucker for pop punk/hardcore. these guys are the real deal. yeah believe all the hype over at ap.net. these dudes are legit and amazing live! this cd has not left my car since my friend burned it for me when it leaked weeks ago. [no worries, I bought the real one last friday night when I saw them in Charleston]

'A Praise Chorus' -Jimmy Eat World
I'm on my feet, I'm on the floor, I'm good to go.
Now all I need is just to hear a song I know.
I wanna always feel like part of this was mine.
I wanna fall in love tonight.
--- Jimmy Eat World is one of my favorite bands. They're up there with Fall Out Boy, New Found Glory, Incubus, and the Ataris. I finally get to see them at the end of October and I'm just gearing up for it I guess. Plus this is one of my favorite songs of theirs.

'Driving Away' -Holiday Parade
she's driving away from me as we speak
my letter in her hand
her tongue in her cheek
she's listening to Morissey
all the while living like James Dean
--- so maybe you saw them on that bubble show with Cartel [idk i didn't have cable this summer] or maybe you saw them on tour this summer or just recently with New Atlantic & Between the Trees. [or maybe in my case you saw them open for the secret handshake, all time low, hit the lights and valencia back in March and then realized that one of your best friends knows them all and then all of sudden you know them and continue to see them everywhere]
bottom line: love these guys. love this song. give [b]rohan a high five when you see them

'Best of Me' -The Starting Line
Tell me what you thought about when you were gone and so alone
The worst is over, you can have the best of me
We got older, but we're still young
We never grew out of this feeling that we won't give up
--- so i've never been a big TSL fan, much to the dissapointment of my friend Sam. i've seen them plenty of times over the years and never been impressed. that all changed last friday night when i saw them play this tiny beach bar in Charleston when I was home for the weekend. they ended their set with this song, and they walked off the stage and left the crowd singing the entire final chorus. that was awesome. mad props. alright creepy looking kenny vasoli & crew, you got my respect back

'Battles' -The Spill Canvas
But then again,
It's like one thousand paper cuts, soaked in vinegar.
like the battles with yourself
that leave you insecure
It's all just a nulling charade
Until the day you finally wake up
and you're not, afraid.
--- i've been ready for some new spill canvas songs and the ones they've released so far aren't dissapointing me in the least. i probably played this song 10x after hearing the first time. it's on heavy rotation this week

*all pictures are from the band's myspace.
you can lurk in my warped folder for live pictures of holiday parade & the spill canvas if you'd like

and now the obvious question:
what songs are owning your life right now?

Posted on 09/27/2007 9:19 PM Comments (6)

so wrong, it's right -all time low review!

- Album Title: So Wrong, It's Right
- Artist: All Time Low
- Album Review: a solid follow up to Put Up or Shut Up. you can tell the recording and producing was of a much higher standard than their last releases. it's evident the boys are still pretty young and focused on enjoying life [i totally back that]. songs are about having fun, losing love, and living life while you're still young. nothing groundbreaking, but still awesome.
- Score (1 being horrible, 10 being the best thing your ears have ever heard!): 8.5
- Favorite Song(s): 'Dear Maria', 'Poppin' Champagne' and the opener 'This Is How We Do'
-What did you like about it: Its kind of addicting. granted it's not the best album I've ever heard in my life nor is it going to set new records for advances in the music industry, but it's solid. Maybe I can completely connect with it because I'm the same age as them, but some of the lines are classic. These boys know what they're doing and they're doing it well.
-What didn't you like about it: I absolutely can't stand Juliet's [of the Automatic Loveletter] voice on 'Remembering Sunday'. that song has such potential to be beautiful and her voice just ruins it for  me. I've tried listening to Automatic Loveletter and it's just not for me. I think Juliet's voice ruins this song and its on the verge of ruining Cartel's 'Lose It' for me as well.
- Other Albums you would compare it to:  Boys Like Girls S/T, All Time Low's "Put Up or Shut Up",

back to school!

not stoked on classes starting back again. i've been in college since my junior year of high school. so i'm an old pro at the tender young age of 19.
this will be my second year at Clemson University [the 27th best college/university as rated by the college board or whatever].
the only thing i really enjoy about college is the freedom and football games. i grew up going to clemson football games, check my super cute picture of me as a cheerleader, circa 1989. and i like going to baseball games. other than that, i could do without college.

your thoughts?
any of you kids going to college now or want to in the future?
and what made you choose that school?

*my first class today is at 2.30pm. love my life. <3

warped tour atlanta 7/18 recap

left anderson, sc for atlanta around 7.30 am because i needed to be in atlanta by 9.30 and we totally were because i drive like a bat out of hell. got there, texted metal mike and he got us in. walked around and surveyed everything before the gates opened, it was nice.
i felt like there were way more bands that i wanted to see this year than there were last year or the year before, so mad props to kevin lyman for making that happen. i'm just mad that i won't get to see cinematic sunrise because they don't jump on warped until Va. Beach. I will get to catch underOath again when they jump on the tour in Charlotte. [yep, i'm doing it again on Monday]
quick list of bands i saw & set details because i'm a tad bit ADD [in order]
- a girl a gun a ghost [myspace.com/agirlagunaghost] some legit dudes from savannah, ga. used to be friends with my friends' now defunct band Aslan. i walked over to watch their set for old times sake and was impressed.
- the spill canvas one of the only band's sets that i watched all the way through. i'm telling you, i was busy! i'd never seen them before and although they had a decent sized crowd on the Hurley stage, there weren't a lot of people singing along. regardless, i had a great time. dude face it, it's fun to yell out the word 'whore'. your friends in PARAMORE would agree. pics & a video from their set can be found in my warped album, obvs.
- the matches nice dudes, fun dudes, great set like always. it was good to finally see them perform for a crowd that appreciated them
- yellowcard i definately remember whining to my parents who wouldn't let me go to Warped 'o4 to see Yellowcard because i was 16 and i would have had to go to charlotte with a car full of boys. well i finally got to see YC and i wasn't dissapointed. loved it! i was back in my junior year of HS for 3o minutes. thanks guys.
- circa survive watched for a few minutes then walked to go find the smart punk stage for the graduate's set
- the graduate [myspace.com/thegraduaterock] most underrated band out now. lead singer corey warning has pipes and they can all play their instruments very well which is incredibly refreshing. good to see those guys again. nice dudes.
- forever the sickest kids yeah whoops was too busy watching the graduate, even though my friend adam swore they were playing at the same time and i convinced them that it was like 5 or 6. well he was right and we ran to catch their last song.
- straylight run uhm john nolan. and michelle's incredibly pretty with a matching voice. stayed for their whole set i think
- chiodos i have the biggest crush on craig owens, i'm not even gunna front like i don't. i fell in love with chiodos two years ago and my love has only grown. they went from playing this converted 2car garage  5 minutes from my house in charleston to playing the mainstage at warped. yeah i'm ready for the new album already.
- family force 5 [myspace.com/familyforce5] LOVE LOVE LOVE them. so much fun. by this time i was exhausted so we sat down in the amphitheater and watched them. they'd won the contest to play for 10 extra minutes so we got to sit down longer and enjoy. seriously go check them out if you haven't already!
- cute is what we aim for yeah uhm about that. shaant's "dancing" is always LOL-worthy. stayed for 3 minutes or something. good to see dave melillo on stage with them though. i <3 him.
- the almost aaron gillespie is one of my heroes and has been for quite some time now. watched half of the almost's set [it was the 3rd time i've seen them] and it was amazing as always. sidestage was packed with people.
- holiday parade [myspace.com/holidayparade] ran over to watch my friends from atlanta play the Hot Topic stage. if you like cartel you'll like them. if you like poppunk with sweet vocals, you'll like them. they covered GCH's 'clothes off' which made me laugh uncontrollably. andy even got off stage and paced the barricade, travieee style. left before their set was over so i could catch a little bit of NFG. i turned around to leave and saw the all time low boys all standing behind me watching as well; they're all friends.
- new found glory one of the first bands i listened to that got me into all that i'm into now. so much that my mom can probably sing several of their old songs because i made her listen to them when she was driving me to middle school. yeah, i was cool. NFG was amazing as always, and played their cover of 'kiss me'. yeah, pretty much i'm stoked for the new movie songs cover album
- all time low walked over to catch them. the pit was packed already so we sat down and watched. good times. 2 new songs. and at the end they decided to cover blink182's 'damnit' and rohan from holiday parade came out to help
- mayday parade after getting a huge drink and avioding the chaos that is boyslikegirls fans, i headed back in to catch mayday parade. they were one of the bands i was super looking forward to seeing and they did not dissapoint. even though they were playing at the same time as paramore, they still had a HUGE crowd. i sang along super loud and had a great time. i stayed for 4 or 5 songs then decided that i needed to go watch paramore and attempt to find my friend that i came with
- paramore i've seen them 7 times now in two years. i guess it was good to hear the new songs. nothing special except for ryan key of yellowcard watching them onstage and singing and dancing. awesome. and they were all tired from the day before and hayley was apparently still sick, so yeah not their best

pictures and videos can be found in my warped tour album, obvs
i'm sad that i missed a few bands, but i'll catch 'em in charlotte on monday

my review for 95sx

Infinity On High (Island/Fueled By Ramen) –Fall Out Boy (2/6/07)

The first voice you hear on “Infinity On High” may shock you. You might run back to your computer in a frenzy of confusion because you thought for sure that Jay-Z didn’t join Fall Out Boy. Yeah, I said it… Sean “Jay-Z” Carter dedicates the album to all the haters and doubters and introduces it on its debut track “Thriller”. If that doesn’t get you pumped, hold on just a second and wait for drummer, Andy Hurley’s introduction of double bass into the song. Start rolling your windows down and turning up the volume because this is not a record to be listened to quietly!
Fall Out Boy might as well change their name to Patrick Stump (vocals/guitar) and the Fall Out Boys because that kid is GOLDEN on this record. Stump could have a successful R&B career in a heartbeat, I’m sure of it. The vocals are stellar and the music is crisp and clear, thanks in part to Joe Trohman (guitar). The overall sound on this record can’t be closely compared to previous releases like “Take This to Your Grave” or “From Under the Cork Tree”, but it is still amazing. The R&B influence that surrounds “Infinity On High” can definitely be attributed to producers like Kanye West and the legendary Baby Face.
Pete Wentz (lyricist/bassist/poster boy) was definitely focusing a lot on the internet when penning the words this album as is evident in “Thriller,” “Every dotcom’s refreshing for a journal update” and “Thnks fr th mmrs”, “If that’s the worse you got, better put your fingers back to the keys”. And if you’ve been paying attention to/lurking any of Wentz’ online journals then some of the lyrics won’t come as a surprise, as they were lifted straight off the pages.

Bottom Line: If you’ve never liked Fall Out Boy, give this record a chance. One full listen may convert you into their next biggest fan. If you’re the kind of fan that’s been camping outside of the record store ever since you heard the official album release date, then you probably won’t be disappointed either. It’s still Fall Out Boy, but a more sophisticated one.

Track Breakdown
1. Thriller- An intro by the one and only Jay-Z, double bass, and stellar vocals. Full of therapy references, Favorite Line: “Long live the car crash hearts”
2. The Take Over, The Break’s Over- another solid track, great guitar work and amazing vocals. Favorite Line: “Don’t pretend you ever forgot about me”
3. This Ain’t A Scene, It’s an Arms Race- the first single off the record, if you listen to the radio at all you’ve probably heard it. FYI: when they play it live, Pete screams the part towards the end that Patrick speaks, Favorite Line: “Sing, until your lungs give out”
4. I’m Like A Lawyer With The Way I’m Always Trying To Get You Off (Me & You)- hands down this is my favorite song on the album, sultry and fun
5. Hum Hallelujah- Second favorite song on the album, I like to dance to it in my dorm room. Favorite Line: “Remix of your guts, your insides x-rayed”
6. Golden- slows it down, but showcases Stump’s vocal ability, not a typical Fall Out Boy song
7. Thnks Fr Th Mmrs- with a title that channels Brand New, this song starts off like an 80’s power ballad, super duper catchy! See if you can catch the innuendo? ;)
8. Don’t You Know Who I Think I Am?- starts of with hand clapping and “penny for your thoughts but a dollar for your insights, or a fortune for your disaster” and everything else is just as catchy as that!
9. The (After) Life of the Party- kind of trance-y? definitely a ballad, clever title
10. The Carpal Tunnel of Love- One of the first tracks off the album that was released to the general public, and definitely not a disappointment. Wentz screams towards the end, which caps off the song perfectly. Favorite line: “We’re so miserable and stunning.”
11. Bang the Doldrums- one of the weaker tracks, supposedly a love song, but the chorus is still catchy as all get out!
12. Fame < Infamy- If this song doesn’t make you want to get up and dance around, then you need to check your pulse. I hope this song is just as amazing live. Favorite line: “When I’m home alone, I just dance by myself”
13. You’re Crashing, But You’re No Wave- starts off with a drum intro similar to “Dance, Dance”, the tempo is all over the place, but it takes you to the courtroom in question. Plus guest vocals by Butch Walker.
14. I’ve Got All This Ringing In My Ears And None On My Fingers- definitely sassy, classic Wentz lyrics

** i wrote this review for my friend who works at 95.1SX out of Charleston, SC. it's obviously a little biased, but thats okay. ;)
